Horseback archery competition in the forest

The wintertime is difficult for horseback archery training. Apart from occasional rain or snowfall, or the terrain being stone-frozen, the daylight hours are limited.

Fortunately, winter also means a mid-semester break from studies, so weekends can be spent in a different way than staring at the screen. So I drove to join a small friendly competition on a January Saturday.

We went to the nearby forest and set up targets on an unused road. The terrain was uphill, and even if we had only 3 targets, they were placed in not so standard way. We had one so near the track it was tempting to just stick an arrow in it with your hand. We had targets somewhere in the bushes on the right side, requiring us to bend or shoot with the non-dominant hand. And, if that wasn’t enough, the targets were moved between each round, sometimes surprising us from behind a tree at the last moment.
